This is the exact data science template I use on my LinkedIn profile as well as the resumes I sent out for applications. I almost never use referrals, and regularly get unsolicited messages from recruiters at top-tier tech companies inviting me to apply. I also almost always receive recruiter call backs when I apply online for relevant positions.
I believe the strength in this template comes from a variety of places:
1. The reader can quickly get a sense of my background with education and dates up front. For example, "Ok, this person finished their undergraduate degree X years ago, started a masters a few years later (they'll confirm employment between those dates), then completed grad school Z years ago, so they should have recent experience as well."
2. I group my work experience by skill type and then have bullet points for projects. This demonstrates both breadth and depth of experience without having extremely long individual bullet points or having to worry about repetitive projects.
Note that my own resume replaces some of the latter items with more career-related experience because my career experience is now much more relevant. But for those with less experience, you should fill up your resume with projects and other experiences that demonstate work ethic, leadership, and teamwork.
