Coaching

Coaching clients into offers at the biggest tech companies, in the toughest market in years

1:1 sessions for data scientists preparing for senior and staff interviews, which is the same level I was interviewing at myself in April and May. I can work with you on any round in the loop, though the case study is where I think I can move your odds the most.

I’ve run more than 100 mock interviews with clients over the past two years, a stretch in which the data science market got materially harder rather than easier. In that time they’ve taken offers at OpenAI, DeepMind, Google Product DS, Apple, Meta, Uber, Airbnb, Stripe, DoorDash, TikTok, Discord, Etsy, BCG, and Tonal, from mid-level through senior staff.

I was also going through interviews myself this Spring, and came away with staff offers at Figma and Attentive alongside senior offers at Google, Uber, and Meta. Having gone through it that recently, I have watched the format shift first-hand: AI-assisted coding rounds arriving, case studies broadening well past marketplace experimentation, and foundational statistics getting probed harder than they were a few years ago.

The value of a live session isn’t more information; it’s pressure, and an outside read on how you actually sound under it. Almost nobody inside a real loop will give you that read, because recruiters and interviewers rarely offer unfiltered feedback on how you actually did. The incentives quietly work against you here: if you stumble early, an interviewer has less reason to push you toward the harder follow-ups, and may spend the rest of the slot smiling politely to get through it.

So you can walk out feeling reasonably good about a round you were eliminated from in the first few minutes. You usually can’t tell whether you lost on a weak performance or were narrowly edged out by one exceptionally strong candidate, and that ambiguity makes it very hard to correct anything on your own. Outside feedback is what closes that gap, whether it comes from a session with me or from a course that hands you the lightbulb moment.

Which one you need

This is a sequence, not a menu

Master the Case Study exists because the first mock interview I ran with a new client was almost always the same conversation: a full restructuring of how they worked through the problem, rather than anything specific to them. After correcting the same handful of errors enough times, I recorded it. That gave people more material than a single session, at a lower price, in a form they could rewatch at their own pace.

So the cheapest thing that solves your problem is usually the right thing to buy first, and for most people that is not a session with me.

  • Start with Master the Case Study$199

Choose this if the case study is your gap and you have not been passing those rounds consistently. You get the restructuring that used to take a first session with me, for less than that session costs, and you can watch it as many times as you need.

  • Start with the Playbook$499

Choose this if you want the whole loop rather than one round. These interviews are competitive at every stage, and 2026 brought a lot of new material: changes to coding rounds, case studies reaching well beyond marketplace experimentation, and project deep dives probed from both a technical and a stakeholder-influence angle. Master the Case Study is included as a standalone chapter, so you can start there if you prefer.

The price reflects senior roles in US tech. If you are outside the US, or targeting roles where compensation is lower, tell me through the contact form and I will send you a code.

  • Book a 1:1 session

Choose this if you are genuinely stuck on where you are losing ground and want the individual feedback that recruiters and interviewers rarely give. It is also the right call when you have a high-stakes round coming up soon and want to maximize your chances with that specific company.

What we can work on

  • Mock case studies

A real case run under interview conditions, followed by a full breakdown of where the answer lost ground and what a stronger version would have sounded like. This is what most people book, and most of it is experimentation-related.

  • Guided walkthroughs

Slower and more instructional than a mock: we work a case together while I narrate what an interviewer is listening for at each turn. This is usually more useful than a cold attempt if you have never passed one of these rounds.

  • Take-home review

You send the challenge and your solution, and I mark it the way a hiring panel actually would, including the parts that are technically correct but read as junior.

  • Project deep dive prep

Rebuilding how you tell your strongest project so that it leads with influence and impact rather than method, which is the round I see strong senior candidates underperform on most often.

  • Job search strategy

Networking, outreach, sequencing your interviews so the lower-stakes ones come first, and reading where you actually stand in a process rather than where you hope you stand.

Before you book

Availability is genuinely limited

I work full time in a senior data science role with an in-office requirement, which means sessions are usually weekend mornings and occasionally weekday early evenings, and I can’t always turn things around on short notice.

If your onsite is four days out, message me before you pay so I can tell you honestly whether I’m able to fit you in. I would much rather say no than take your money and hand you a slot that arrives too late to change anything.

You can cancel any time up to the day before your session and I will refund you in full, no explanation needed. Rescheduling I will always try for, but given how tight my calendar is I can’t promise a replacement slot.

What clients say
On 1:1 coaching

A single session with Jonathan was worth more than 20 hours of studying for interviews. He walked me through interview structures and where to focus (and not to focus). Ultimately Jonathan helped me secure two offers, and the only thing I’d do differently is make sure I reached out sooner.

On 1:1 coaching

I had the pleasure of being coached by Jonathan on experimentation and causal inference, and I can’t recommend him highly enough. He is incredibly knowledgeable and thoughtful, and he asks the most relevant and insightful interview-style questions that really stretch your thinking. What stood out most was the level of detail in his feedback. He didn’t just point out areas for improvement but explained why and how to approach them differently, which made a huge impact on my preparation.

Thanks to Jonathan’s coaching, I felt very prepared and confident going into my interviews, and I ultimately received strong positive feedback on the experimentation and causal inference rounds. His guidance was instrumental to my success, and I’m deeply grateful for his support.

Interview support

45 minutes · video call

Mock case studies, guided case study walkthroughs, take-home challenges, statistics and experimentation rounds, presentations, and the behavioral and stakeholder modules. Pick any of them, or tell me where you are losing ground and I will pick.

Pitched at senior and staff level, which in practice means clustered and geo-based experimentation and observational causal inference, along with the judgment calls sitting on top of them. Most people book this for case study work.

Ask Me Anything

30 minutes · video call

Breaking into data science, a resume review, causal inference work you are doing at your job, career direction, or anything else you want an outside read on.

Send me your topics in advance at no cost, so I can tell you whether I have the experience to be useful. If they fall outside what I know well, I will say so plainly and refund you rather than take the call.

This is the wrong choice for interview preparation. That is higher stakes and needs the longer session.

Both are paid through Stripe and booked by email afterwards, so I can find a slot that works across time zones rather than holding a fixed calendar.

Not sure which you need?

Send me a note about where you are in your process and what is coming up. I’ll tell you what would actually help, including the times when the honest answer is that you should just read the Playbook instead.

I’ve worked with people in Brazil, India, Malaysia, Poland, Germany, and the UK. If the time zone math looks impossible from where you are, say so when you write and we will find something that works.

I read and answer everything myself. Your address is used to reply and nothing else.
